Bill Barry-Cotter sometimes jokes that it takes 40 years to build a Maritimo. In all seriousness, he means that it's the culmination of his lifetime's work - a career that's made him Australia'a most awarded boat builder. This experience can be seen all over the Maritimo 48, a long-range luxury motoryacht with all features of the 60 and 52 models. In fact, you'll pinch yourself to make sure you are not seeing double.
Two double staterooms, two saloons, two aft decks, two designer-styled bathrooms and two helm stations. You would be hard pressed to find any cruiser with so many luxurious appointments woven seamlessly into its design. And no other motoryacht is easier to operate, maintain or enjoy. Like every Maritimo, the 48 is also incredibly frugal on fuel without compromising performance. Designed with an advanced variable deadrise hull, engines mounted forward and fuel tanks positioned amid ships, the 48 has superb balance and poise. Apply the power and you'll never bury the stern, ride bow high - or use fuel inefficiently. Which all goes to prove that good things really do come in small packages.
Board the Maritimo 48 via transom doors on either side to the spacious cockpit. This main aft deck is well planned with a fixed fiberglass console which includes a combo freezer/cooler, BBQ grill and sink and custom tackle center. The cockpit area also offers a fresh water hot/cold shower, fender and line storage boxes, a large storage lazarette, as well as stair access to the engine room. Side walkways port and starboard, with high bulwarks and stainless railing, gives secure access to the fore deck and bow areas.Â
Sliding glass doors lead from the cockpit to a starboard side aft U-shaped galley and spacious salon area. The aft deck sliding doors open to port or starboard allowing traffic to flow as needed. The galley is fully equipped and central to the aft deck, bridge stairs, and salon. Moving forward, the salon is light and open with glass on all four sides. It features 2 separate settees, dining table, storage lockers and a fixed flat screen HD TV, as well as a starboard side door to access the foredeck.Â
One of the unique features of the Maritimo is the interior stairs to the enclosed bridge/skylounge. The enclosed bridge, with reverse cycle air conditioning, allows for the family and guests to cruise together in comfort and quiet. There is great visibility all around plus opening windows and an overhead hatch. The bridge helm has full electronics and two Stidd seats. For guests, the upper salon is equipped with a settee and table, and refrigerator. This 48 has a wonderful extended Juliet balcony, or “back porch”, off the aft bridge, accessed via a glass door.
Below decks the three stateroom arrangement features an island-berth-equipped VIP forward, an island-berth-equipped master aft and to port, a guest cabin opposite the master with bunks, and two nearly identical heads with separate shower stalls, one accessible from both the guest and the VIP staterooms and the other accessible from the master exclusively. Â There is an overhead hatch in each of the staterooms and heads.
