Jeanneau – 409

Connecticut, United States
$142,000

This 409 is one of Jeanneau’s most popular boats, with a 2 head, 3 stateroom interior.  This particular boat has been set up for easy and fast cruising, with a rare 6.9′ draft keel (lighter, faster, more stable than the shoal keel), a Dutchman Main with a Selden UHMW track system, a rigid bimini with integrated solar panels and over $50k in upgrades since 2021 when she was refit.

Currently at the St Thomas YC in the USVI’s, she will be delivered to Charleston SC in April and Charleston to Norwalk CT in May.

History, Future Projects, and Major Upgrades

Our Jeanneau 409 (ex Ada) was originally in the BVI Sunsail Charter Fleet, but was unusual in that she was simpler than normal with a deeper keel, which may explain why she had less use than normal and was primarily used in various races like Antigua Race week.  In 2017 (after 4 years of service), she lost her rig in Irma and suffered some minor deck damage (starboard midships cleat pulled out, most stanchions and pulpits damaged).  There was some slight grid damage and the bottom of the rudder was broken off. Some parts had been removed.

She sat in the water at the Sunsail base for 4 years while they figured out what to do with her.  In the end Sunsail sold her.  We purchased her in Sept 2021 and spent 4 months refitting and rebuilding her.  We used the best gear, so she now has, for example, a Selden mast with an MDS slide system, a Harken furler, and many other upgrades like the rigid bimini with  integrated solar panels.   We are also not a big fan of glued in grids.  The grid flanges were cut off and the grid professionally glassed to hull.  She is now the strongest Jeanneau 409 out there, and probably the fastest also.

For future upgrades, the vinyl upholstery has several split seams, and needs attention.   The wheel brake / hub should be replaced at some point (no brake currently) There are no other significant projects to attend to.  I am thinking about adding more opening ports.

We purchased her for our personal use and for our membership program (soundsailingcenter.com).   She has not seem much use (8 weeks in 3 years), but everyone who sails her loves her.   We are currently building a new 41' trimaran and need to raise money to finish her.
